Act of resistence: Adapt a Native Elder

Adapt a Native Elder
Well Jenna, Bene, and Chou, and I went to Bayshore Mall on Saturday and passed out about 100 flyers that were to increase the awareness of Native Americans and including them throughout other cultures. Often times Natives Americans are forgot about or aren't seen as important than in other cultures. We wanted to let people know this and to hopeful open eyes to them and see them as people as well. The adapt an elder is a really program where you can donate money to a Native American elder to support them to help them with food, clothes, and sometime life. Well enough of the background information lets see how the actual "walk for our cause" as we called it really went.
At first when we arrived at the mall we were a little hesitant; well all except Bene…lol. So Bene started if off to lead the rest of us in the right direction, "Hi ma'am, would you please take a flyer for our awareness?" And that was that: 1 down 99 to go. Then as we kept walking alone Jenna attempted to make a move. "Hi would you please take flyer for our awareness?" and the person was like "Uhh, No!" lmao…it was craziness. I mean seriously. Then for some reason we decided to change our slogan to "Hi would our please take a flyer for our cause." And we kept walking. Well it finally seemed like we were actually making progress when our pile of flyers got smaller but some of the reactions we got from people we just crazy. For example, I asked a man, "excuse me sir, would you please take a flyer to support our cause?" and the man replied, "…I'll….get…one later." and walked away and laughed. It was weird because I didn’t think it was that hard to take a piece of paper and read it once. O yea and then this one person that Bene was talking to said, "well I kind of have to meet someone soooo." LOL…what sense does that make. But yea in the end we ended up passing out 100 flyers. And honestly it felt really good. I felt like I did a good deed…lol. But yea I had fun! O yea we also noticed that we would walk past a person who we previously gave a flyer to and hmmm what do you know it was no longer in their possession…lol, some people idk…ok ok one more story…When one of us would get rejected (mostly Jenna and Chou…lol) someone behind them would feel bad and be like " I'll take one." and I didn’t really know how to look at it.

1. I feel bad for you so I will take a stupid flyer OR
2. Like seriously how rude can people be, these kids are just trying to make a difference. And it looks interesting.

I mostly was leaning towards the first one but hey…who knows…

No dead women? really?

well i must say that im a lil happy that no women died in this book. It about time we see some strong women come out successful in the end.. it started with House of Bernarda Alba where Adela kills herself...WEAK...then Hedda Gabler where Hedda kills herself..WEAK..finally we come to a strong, intelligent, and well rounded women..Lysistrata. She shows how more women should be in this world..outspoken...and not afraid to take a stand in whatt she believes in. Lysistrata was a good transition from all the death and weak women we read about previously and glad the women came out on top...haha!!
well yea overall i didn't really like the context but other than that it was ok..i just felt like i supposed to have previous knowledge on Greek mythology to get a good understanding of the book...but that's the only problem i encountered..

Peace Out Lys!

Make Love, Not War

so i know everyone is talking about this but i feel that the main theme can be fit in to the quote "make love, not war" this is really what Lysistrata's oath is about. She wants to see a peaceful end to the war without any hatred to eaither side of the war. She does by saying that the love theses women have for their men...well the sex will be taken away until they can get the was ended in a peaceful manner. Her moto should be "make love, not war" because obviously the women would rather have their husbands at home to love than to worry about losing them in the war. And because it was difficult for many women to stay true to this oath it proves that the women know making love is important to men and that if that was taken away from them they would go crazy.

The Boycott again

so i was just thinking back to the boycott again i remembered how funny it was and u felt as though u didn't know if you could laugh or not..lol..like in my class when ms. D asks a question and the answer is something sexual we all look around and pretend we don't know cuz we don't want to get caught with the assumption was wrong...then u'd be a loser..lol..well that's kinda how the play was because there was sexual content and the English teachers were sitting right behind me and i wasn't sure if i could laugh at certain things so i thought it was pretty funny looking back at how the audience reacted. It made me think of how the readers of the past would have looked at this..book..i think they would look at it as embarrassing or inappropriate for someone to be righting about. And yea that's about it!!

The Boycott

so i went to go see the play "The Boycott" on Thursday with Jenna and bene and basically i thought it was hilarious..it was a modern day Lysistrata with a modern issue of global warming. It was performed by one person who played a ll the characters herself..it was quite impressive..well neways i thought that it was a really interesting play because u could somewhat relate to it a lil bit more because it as about a common issue. as in Lysistrata the women make an oath to stop having sex in order to end the war peacefully and in this play the First lady of the white house starts a program called gaia in order to obtain abstinence to get out the word of global warming. The actress acted out almost that exact same scene with Myrrhine and Kenisias. It was soo funny. Although the play is supposed to be funny, it was a very good way to get out information about global warming. i learned alot about this issue while having fun which is always the best! i thought that this play was very good resembled Lysistrata very well.

Brutes vs. Brains

so basically brains vs brutes is a very important theme throughout Lysistrata and the underlying message is brains= women and brutes= men.
a prime example of this theme is through the dialogue between Kinesias and Lys. Kinesias would speak the first comment that cam to his mind whereas Lys. thoughts had knowledge to them and meant something. The brutes usually just say what they think makes sense at the moment whereas the brains only say what they think is relevant. In the end the brains are the ones successful. this is proven by the fact that the oath eventually does end the war peacefully. so yea brains vs brutes can be seen as kinesias vs lys. and women vs. men!

YEAHHH

The oath

well i think that oath is quite a risk..especially because sex is a major thing in society. (to some ppl) well neways i think that the oath to obtain abstinence in order to end the war peacefully is really good idea but only if you have enough supporters. Lys. does a great job gaining support from women all over the courtly who would also like to see the war end peacefully where both sides leave happy. In the time frame of the book i (when i first began reading) my hypothesis was that the oath was going to be very successful because men were very indulged in sex and it was an important thing in many ppls lives. the oath was also very well thought through because of the fact that one had to think of something that really meant a lot to the men and something that would upset them after a certain amount of time. Basically this blog is saying that i think the oath is going to be successful in the end.
What are ur guys opinion on why Lys. is the leader of this oath and not another women? i feel as though Lys. is a very mature women when it comes to talking to other strong people. for example when she was talking to Kinesias she stays calm and relaxed because she has the type of confidence that creates a great leader. She has the intelligence to out smart someone smarter than her because she is soo strategic. well in my opinion at least. Also she is the only one who stands up and say WE CAN DO THIS and persuades other women to join in with her oath of abstinence.
I noticed that Lysistrata invites women from many different countries to join in her oath to abstinence. At first i wasn't sure why she did it but then i thought about it in class when we had to do a journal about it and it made me think about the possibilities. First i thought that she did this because she wanted to make a world wide impact instead of just her community. For example, if Lys. only had people who live in the same area than she may only have an impact with the soldiers in her community but if she asked people world wide than she would have a better chance of ending the war peacefully. I also think she did this to unify the women all over the world and show that they can all stay together and be strong.

My first thought of my home girl Lys.

Well finally my first blog of Lysistrata. This blog is going to be about idk i guess i'll just type and see what happens. So when i first started reading Lysistrata i thought it was kinda funny but random becasue i didnt really know what was going on and i felt kinda behind on my greek mythology. But as i kept reading it turned out i liked the book so far. I found it interesting how the issue these women are facing took place back in the day but the fact that it is delivered in modern days. which is what i like about this book so far.
So far i feel that Lysistrata is a very strong women with thought out opinions that she wont back down on. She isnt afraid to tell how things are screwed up and how they need to be fixed. But i also feel that she is very intelligent and thinks things out thourghly before she speaks. She kinda has a mastermind of her own that makes her AWESOME!!!! lmao
