So Hedda's pistols are obviously a very important symbol throughout the whole act and yesterday i was thinking very deeply (well trying to) and i can to the conclusion that her pistols are a symbol for the lack of power that Hedda has.. For example at the end of act two Hedda says at least she has her pistols which to her is power but really she has them because its the only way she does have power...she has no other way to have control over people but to intimidate them with her pistols. Then in the end of the play she gives up a pistol to Lovborg implying that now all her ability to control people in her life is gone and then finally when she kills herself with one of her pistols this shows that she didn't even have control over herself. so yea that's my deep thought...lol..pretty good hm? (get it..i was being George) ok I'm done
peace

But does Hedda really have control? Or does she only seem like she is in control??
Couldnt you argue that Hedda killing herself with the pistols shows that she had NO control from the beginning of the play? Cuz u kno how she doesnt have control over anything, couldnt you argue that the pistol had control over her almost. Like, people let her think that her pistols were a way that she could take control and intimidate people, so that in time, the pistols would take control over her?
hmm you both bring up good questions...idk...i think hedda thinks she has power but really doesnt...idk though
I think Hedda is putting on a show for others, trying to make herself appear more powerful than she really is, due to her insecurities and weaknesses.
Hedda had control to a certain extent, Naomi, but it was only over Lovborg, and he was already damaged goods.
Hedda control isn't control in a physical form....its just there hovering in a psychological state. You cant control anyone with out controlling yourself....do you believe Hedda have self control?
