suspect one: Brack!
i am beginning to think that brack could be a good suspect for the death of eilert because you could argue that if he shot him he could run to hedda and make her under his control...i mean how else would someone know the exact details about where eilert was and where the gun was unless he saw him himself...you know wut i mean...well just a thought because this whole time brack often took away that power from hedda fore example when he took the pistol away from hedda and put it back in the case shows that brack has some control over hedda. so that adds to the hypothesis that brack wanted complete control over hedda and maybe had everything planned out already...which would somewhat explain the fact why his reaction at the end to hedda shooting herself was kinda weird..

its funny that you suggest this. because in our class, one of the groups did a skit regarding eilerts death in the brothel and depicted brack as the culprit in eilert's death. however, i dont think that there is much validity to this hypothesis. it's merely fun speculation and almost too much of what if. i think that ibsen does not write enough about the death of eilert to suggest that brack had any involvement in the death. however, to suggest that brack's reaction to hedda's suicide reveals something in regards to his possible involvement in eilerts death does give some validity to this hypothesis and i may just buy it.
It's something to think about, because only brack would know what hedda's pistol would look like because he's seen it before, when it was aimed at him, and when he had a better look putting it in the case.
He does come off a bit strong on hedda making her feel guilty about what her involevment was. This could have all been apart of his plan to protect his triangle.
And since he took away the pistol, he knows what it is, how it looks, and where she keeps them. It is a great argument and I would definately try to cross reference him in any investigation that the police attempt to follow up on. Unfortunately, the story ends before we find that out. The reaction at the end was very ironic for me. He had said earlier that "people say such things but rarely do them" and then she actually goes and does it anyway. I expected him to be biting his tongue when that happened but he just plays it off. I bet on the inside he was rolling becuase he had lost his control as well. It is a very fine line that draws Judge Brack and Hedda apart. Neither of them have much power in the play, and both lose it in the end. However, Judge Brack's decision to stay calm paid off and he is in the clear, whereas, Hedda has not only taken her own life but ahs secured Judge Brack's becuase now no one can know what really happened, becasue he isn't going to tell anyone else to gain control over them. there's no reason to now. the secret is safe now.
i never thought about it like that, but i see what you mean. Brack did know surprisingly much about his death, and did act wierd when hedda was shot. the one thing that i see as a problem with this situation is that i never saw brack as that much of a conniving person, and it would be a little out of his character to go to that much trouble to cover it up. Personally, while i agree with you, it seems a little far fetched
I thought I was the only one with Brack conspiracy theories! However, mine involved Brack being more directly responsible for Hedda's death. Possibly involving a hitman. Ever since I read the context of the page immediately preceding it, my suspicions have lowered slightly, but they still remain.
